Gods of Night (Star Trek: Destiny #1)Gods of Night by David Mack

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I'm not sure I can assess this book fairly. It is focused on my least favorite characters of the franchise (Picard, Riker, Troi, and Ezri Dax), and I took at least a year, maybe two, to read it (it's an e-book on my phone). Not the best way to maintain cognitive continuity. It also employs a trope that I've noticed appearing more and more in the Star Trek books, which is to make MACO officers and troops uniformly more like Lt. Col. Kilgore and Sgt. Barnes than like Col. Childers and Sgt. Stryker. That needs to stop.

For all of the above reasons, I really didn't enjoy it much, but Mack is a consistently solid writer, so I'm not complaining about the quality of the book. I just didn't enjoy it much.
