Because we have had no drama...

Soooo we get home. Walk the dogs. Hear a crack. Go inside. 5 minutes later someone pulls in the drive: "Did you know..." We call 911. I don't know why Hawk thought the structure wasn't safe. BTW, that's where our water CAME from. Notice past tense. Life is going to be...interesting for probably weeks. *Sigh*

The front section of the structure fell and completely filled the northbound lane. The VFD is out there doing one of the things they do so well. The owner of the barn was contacted, and was rushing out to come over, fell, cracked his head, and showed up bleeding, with a concussion.

We have water rights, so somewhere in there I think he's going to have to make it possible for us to get access to our pump, but I think he'll work with us on that. What a mess!

So, I'll be showering at my gym, Ro at the gym at the Masonic Home, and I suspect Jane and Skip will get tired of us going over there to fill buckets so we can use the toilet.

La la la la la la la la......

Nope--our house is half of a farm. The barn, where the pump is, was on one parcel, we on the other (on either side of the county highway). We have deeded water rights, but otherwise no responsibility/control. It was a beautiful barn once, the kind with cobblestone for the 1st four feet of wall in the main section. The part where the pump was was the add-on (when electricity came in) and where the milk tank had been once that was the way of doing things. If the owner had been motivated, he could have gotten one of those Heritage Grants to restore the barn. But I guess he didn't see the point. I suspect now he's going to wish he had, because the town will bill him, he'll have to pay to have it demolished, and he'll have to do it all so we can get water in the nearish future. And he's a nice guy, so I really wish it hadn't gone this way.

Oh, Great Googly-Moogly.

You are welcome to come stay in Manlius! We would have to be sneaky about the puppies, but we have 1.5 baths and a kitchen with running water, available for you any time... just not very convenient for your work, unfortunately :/

Ugh! So sorry to hear it, but very glad no one was *in* the barn at the time.

I second the cruise comment...
